What a wonderful Dr Who episode and another stunning performance by David Tennant! I HAD to draw this (see below) while watching the show and later I threw some digi color on it. (above)

Tabatha Taking Over...
I was working on some zorro layouts last night and watching TV and Tabatha was on with her new season on BRAVO (kinda "Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares" but with salons), and I couldn't help to draw her: she has such a characteristic face :)
So she took over my layouts... and the salon she had to fix ;)
Caricatures is a kinda new territory for me so I hope you dig it the same.
Cheers,
Francesco

Greetings from La Jolla
Hi guys,
I was able to finish the inks and colors on this collaboration piece with Steven E Gordon right before my pc crashed. Luckily I was also smart enough to back up all files :P
Anyhow, here's the final piece in its entirity. Hope you guys dig it.

SCALPED: High Lonesome TPB
High Lonesome, the 5th chapter of Jason Aaron's and RM Guera's beutiful noir book "SCALPED", comes out today in the stores. Those of you that follow this blog, now that I was kindly asked to be a guest artist on issue 27, telling the back story of FBI Agent Baylis E. Nitz.
To celebrate the trade (and just because I LOVE drawing me some SCALPED ;)) I did this pinup. It was supposed to be a quick sketch but it got a little out of my hands (as usual happens ;)).
Ok, now close the computer and go buy Vertigo's "High Lonesome" :)

GEN 13: Caitlin Fairchild
Every now and then I like to ink someone else pencils, and when that someone else is a really good friend like Steve Gordon (check his website in the link list on the right) then the fun is doubled! :D
After a Batman and a Superman already in our collaboration can, now it's the turn to give some love to the GEN 13 team of young superheroes. To start: Caitlin Fairchild, a very strong young lady indeed :)
More on the way.

The Vampire Book
A few months back I was asked by Dorling Kindersley to provide 9 illos about specific vampires from all around the world, and this is one of those. I am showing all the process above (click on the illo for larger view), from rough to color (actually they needed just the b/w inks, the colors are something I added later for fun Wink) for those who like to take a peek at the making of.
Hope you guys dig it.
The book is "The Vampire Book", hardcover, 96 pages packed with tons of photos and illos, and it's available on the DK website (among other bookstores and online places). I just got my comps and it looks awesome! :)

I am also a big fan of Hellboy (as many of you may know already) so this morning warm up was about the BIG RED :)
The fact that Mike Mignola is gonna be tomorrow at Dragon*Con in artist alley (where I am set up) might be another reason of why I drew this ;)

The SuperDevil!!!
I am a big fan of "Family Guy" and one of the funniest episodes is when Stewie is believed to be possessed and the Griffins are forced to flee in Texas.
One of the best bits of the episode is when we are introduced to the SuperDevil. "The SuperDevil is at least 6 inches taller (than the regular Devil), he seems to have a flying motorcycle and a jar of marmelade that is believed to force you to commit adultery" :D
Here's my version of this guy ;)

The Completely Unnecessary Marvel Comics 70th Anniversary Graphic Novel Cover Meme
The awesome Stuart Immonen started this cover meme on his blog.
In brief: you pick a random cover from the Marvel inventory and, based on a word form that cover, a random pic from Flickr and come up with a fictional cover for a contemporary novel.
All details and accurate instructions can be found on Stuart's blog.
Since I too should be focusing on actual work, I decided to join in and this is the result (based on the below Cage cover from 1992).
Ok, back to work now ;)

Francesco

Eye on Garrison
Writer extraordinaire Jeff Mariotte shells out some more info about our upcoming GARRISON mini at Wildstorm in this interview at Newsarama. Check it out!
Since one of the image posted is the cover for issue 2, I thought to share below a bit the WIP the went with it.
1) and 2) are the initial 2 layouts for the cover. Once decided to go with layout 2) I proceeded to do the inks and grayscale (3) and played a bit on the colors (4) .
The result is the cover in blue that you see above.
Hope you guys dig it :)

Farewell, Michael...
(Click on the image for a bigger view)
I still remember when my dad bought us the very first hi-fi system with record player (NEC - Nippon Electric Company, or something like that). The store that sold me the system had also a huge selection of albums and audio tapes (yeah, that was before the CDs). So my dad said: "Pick two albums, now that you have that player". And I had no doubt about what to pick: Thriller and Off The Wall.
Farewell, Michael.

Black Beetle @ Heroes!
Hello guys,
I wanted just to let you all know that I am gonna be at Heroes Conthis weekend, and I will have some BB goodies.
I am printing a limited (numbered and signed) 100 copies of the very first Black Beetle ashcan, "No Way Out" (that's the title of the first arc).
It contains the first 5 sequential pages (which you have seen on Pulp Sunday) and a sketchbook section with lots of concepts and illos. The ashcan is limited to 100 copies and I will only bring part of those to Heroes, so I will have a few more for Dragon Con and SDCC and some to sell online to those interested.
The book is fully colored, tip to toe, has 12 pages plus inside covers, and measures approx. 7.5x10.75" (magazine size). You can see the front cover above and the interior front cover below.
All books come with a quick Black Beetle sketch (when purchased from me - I am planning to send some to a few stores without sketch) in the inside back cover (I create a space there for this purpose).
Those who are interested please email me using the contact button via my website.
Other goodies are large prints, 11.7x16.5" & 13x19", archival ink on archival paper, of the cover/movie poster above (email for rates if interested), and other items like the mousepads and shirts which are also available on Zazzle and CafePress (that's where I ordered mine ;)).

Check Pulp SUnday for pricing info.
Of course, if you are going to be at Heroes, feel free to stop by even if just to say hi :)
See you there tomorrow!!! :)

Mad Doctors!!!
Hello my firends,
I wanted to let you know I am having a Mad Doctors Week over at Pulp Sunday: every day, all week long, I will be tributing some famous (or infamous ;)) mad scientist from classic horror and sci-fi movies. It's good stuff and it's in the name of Science (gone awfully wrong ;)) so feel free to check it out if you have spare time and you used to love (or hate) those biology classes :)
Today we feature Dr Paul Rigas from "Man Made Monster" (1941).
Cheers,

American Idol 2009
As you may know by now, Last week I was in charge of the animated part of the Ford video with the Idols on the Wed evening result show. Many many hours of work for turning the 3 animations in time before the show aired in prime time, and all was delivered in time thanks also to the help of my good friend (and veteran animator) Steve Gordon.
For those who missed the video last week, here are a couple of links where you can watch the making of and the final aired video.
- making of the video

I am also posting some in-progress work to show what is behind some of the animation work done last week.
Hope you all dig it and be sure to tune in on Fox this evening and tomorrow to find out who is American Idol 2009.
